As the cost of construction and development continues to increase, the goal to provide quality, affordable housing becomes evermore challenging. Fortunately, the Rural Housing Improvement District program helps underwrite public improvements for affordable housing in rural Kansas communities. It essentially works like Tax Increment Financing, where the base property tax is frozen and any property taxes paid above the base is rebated back to the project. The rebate is used to finance public improvements and other eligible construction costs. RHID has successfully been used in many of Prairie Fire’s projects, helping us bring the best community possible to our residents, at the most affordable rent!
